"Spotlight on Women in Science and Technology"
Speakers Include Leslie Carruthers from The Search Guru

SAGAMORE HILLS, OH – April 11, 2008 - Leslie Carruthers from The Search Guru spoke at a Thompson Hine event in February honoring and celebrating accomplishments by women.

This event was hosted by the Thompson Hine law firm at their downtown Cleveland office. Attendees of the event were influential women in business, science and law from Northeast Ohio, who work in the intellectual property, technology, life science and bioscience industries.

At the event, Carruthers shared background information with attendees about how she formed her company and the impetus behind her decision to become a business owner; how The Search Guru has evolved; and what services her company provides. Carruthers gave a brief overview of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), an Internet marketing strategy that is a mix of art and science. Using SEO techniques, The Search Guru improves the rankings of client websites in the search engine results pages; drives targeted traffic to those particular websites; and uses specific copywriting and technical tools to increase the clients’ online conversions and sales.

“It was an honor to be recognized among such an esteemed group of women leaders in technology and the sciences,” Carruthers said. “The energy and excitement was palpable. I am inspired and energized by what these powerful, talented women have accomplished – and by what they plan to accomplish in the future.”

Other speakers at the event included Mary J. Laughlin, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine and Pathology at Case Western Reserve University and Medical Director at the Cleveland Cord Blood Center; Megan Dortenzo, Intellectual Property practice group leader at Thompson Hine; Rachel Uram, Director of Operations of OneCommunity; and Penny Smith, a partner in the Life Sciences group at Thompson Hine. Also in attendance were Jane Campbell, the first woman mayor of Cleveland and Norma Rist, the President Pro Tempore for Athena International.

The Spotlight on Women in Science and Technology event was sponsored by Thompson Hine as part of their mission to be the pacesetter in the legal community for the advancement and promotion of all professional women. As part of that mission, they are creating opportunities to celebrate the growing presence of women decision makers in law and business.
